My genius cat keeps hurling himself
into the air in front of my door
grasping for the tie to my bathrobe
that hangs from the top.

Each time he leaps his only
achievement is the wood
hardly greeting him face-first
as he slams into the door and
falls back down.

He sits up leaning back,
and tries and tries again;
it almost says something about
all these foolish folk
who give up on love without a shot
or a strike of wood to their face.

There! He's caught it this time
dangling midair success,
the tie is his;
when the whole thing collapses,
leaving him a wriggling mound under
a canopy of fuzz and a haze
of red-colored confusion.

I hang it back up, set him free, and smile
because even though it's out of his reach
he still keeps trying to catch it.

Each stanza until the end adds an extra line for each time Omen tries and fails. The end, shortest with only three lines, represents starting again fresh from the beginning, also signifying the beginning of the poem being after him jumping for a while with a fourth line.
The line "red-colored confusion" is supposed to be similar to rose-colored glasses, but I couldn't seem to word it right... I may fix that at some point.

My cat Omen is in his "terrible-two's". Anything and everything can be killed, drank, or played with.

People give up too quickly.

Lovely. A great perception of determination and a message that if you want something so badly, then you have to strive for it.

I, with an opinion think that humans are so flawed and should take a look outside of the box sometimes to cherish those such as animals to learn the lessons that we need to be taught so desperately.

Poetically, it was greatly penned with a thorough flow and consistent imagery.

Quite inspirational to say the least. :)

Keep writing!

Animals really do have amazing lessons to teach.
My other cat Shadow, whom I find even more amusing in her own scornful ways, likes to frequently teach me lessons of fidelity. She refuses to let anyone other than me pet her, until the moment I stroke another cat. At that point she lets anyone she sees pet her except for me, doing nothing but glare at me and walk away for days following.
My animals are quite set into who they are. Whoever said animals don't have souls or personality is extremely lost, and could learn a lot spending a few minutes in my home.

Thank you so very much for the compliments! When I first wrote this I was deeply frustrated over it, but I revisited it when I wanted to post it here and what was missing just came to me... I'm quite proud of it ^.^

I adore this poem, and everything you pull through with it. You're such a talented individual Kira.

=) Thank you.

I'm just the writer; Omen's the genius behind this one.
